Frances M. Bowie, 81, formerly of Surry Lane, Lewiston, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Russell Park Rehab and Living Center, where she had been a resident. Born in Rumford on July 19, 1936, she was the daughter of Lorien and Marcia Elms Bowie.  She moved to the local area at a young age and attended Lewiston schools, graduating from Lewiston High School, Class of ’55. Frances worked as a bookkeeper in the offices of the S.S. Kresge’s Department Store. After the downtown Lewiston store closed, she went to work in the offices of the Kmart store in Auburn until her retirement.  …

Joseph A.N. Sirois, 1935 - 2018

Joseph Armand Normand Sirois, 82, passed away Tuesday, February 13th, peacefully at his home in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lewiston, Maine on May 29th, 1935 to George and Marie (Boucher) Sirois. While serving in the Air Force during the Korean war, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley June (Goldsmith), in England on October 12, 1955.  

He served in the Air Force and was active in the National Guard for several years. He owned and operated Sirois and Sons Upholstery for over thirty years. He was a coach driver for various regional transportation companies; permanently retiring two years ago from Hudson Bus Lines.

Madeline N. Veilleux, 89, of Lewiston, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at the Montello Manor in Lewiston. Madeline was born in Livermore Falls on May 8, 1928, the daughter of Arthur and Blanche Cloutier Nadeau. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of ’46. Madeline graduated from the St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1949. She married Norman R. Veilleux in 1952, and shared 63 years of marriage together before his passing on March 8, 2015. She worked as registered nurse in the Lewiston area, including as a private duty nurse, at St. …

James Patrick Herbert, 61, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, at his home in Auburn surrounded by family. Jim was born on June 2, 1956 in Auburn, New York, the son of John “Jack” and Dorothy Jahn Herbert. He was a graduate of Auburn High School in Auburn, NY and Saint Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. He completed his doctorate in Dentistry at University of Pennsylvania in 1982. He served in the United States Navy as a lieutenant commander and was stationed in Portsmouth, Virginia, Okinawa, Japan, and Newport, Rhode Island. James Leo Cosgrove, 91, of Lewiston, died Sunday February 11, 2018 in South Paris at the Maine Veterans Home. He was was born at his family home in Strawberry Patch, Lewiston, August 23rd, 1926. He had a passion for sports throughout his life. His earliest memories were of pick-up baseball and hockey games with neighborhood friends. He was very proud of being a part of St. Patrick's School's winning baseball team in the early 30's. He was an undefeated professional boxer using the alias Jimmy Mason and captain of the St. Patrick's bowling and golf leagues.  He moved to Connecticut for work and lived there before and after serving his country in the Korean war. …

Edward Michael Fahey Jr., 96, of Auburn, died February 9, 2018 in Falmouth, following a brief illness. Born in Lewiston on May 20, 1921, he was the son of Edward and Agnes Byrnes Fahey. He was a parishioner of the former St. Patricks Church of Lewiston, graduated from St. Patricks grammar school in 1934, Lewiston High School, Class of ’38, and after high school he attended Massachusetts Radio Institute in Boston. He entered the United States Army Air Force in 1942, serving four years, he was recalled to active duty in 1951, during the Korean war serving for one year and half. …

Rebecca Blanche Bennett, 76, of Turner, was welcomed into Jesus’ loving arms on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Madison on June 29, 1941, she was the daughter of Saliem and Shirley Durgin Thomas, and was educated in Portland schools. Although Rebecca worked mostly in restaurants, her favorite job was being a mother, a nana, and a “super” nana. She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing, cooking, baking, and being with her family. She was a huge Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, and never missed a chance to start a round of singing “99 bottles of beer on the wall.” …

Morey G. Plavin of Georgetown, MA, passed away on Saturday, February 3rd 2018 in Danvers, MA.

He was born in Berlin, NH, on October 22nd, 1938 to Saul and Gwenith Ingersoll Plavin. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Central Maine Institute, and attended Boston University. 

During his extensive career which spanned 5 decades, Morey worked in all facets of the shoe industry. He held positions such as National Sales Manager, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, and President of Manufacturing for companies such as Frye Boots, Viner Brothers, Dexter Shoe Company, and Nettleton Footwear. …

Geraldine M. Ricker, 1930 - 2018

Geraldine (Gerry) M. Ricker, 87, died unexpectedly on January 30, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital. Gerry was born on October 30, 1930 in Lewiston, Maine, the youngest daughter of Bernard and Margaret Murphy Ricker. 

Gerry graduated from Lewiston High School in 1948 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Education from St. Joseph's College in 1953 and a master's degree in Education from the University of Maine at Orono in 1964. She taught third and fourth grade students for over 38 years. Although most of her career was spent teaching in the Lewiston School System, she also taught in Auburn, Rumford, and Silver Springs, Maryland. …

Therese Roy Goulet, 91, of Auburn has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 26, 2018.  She was a resident of the Chapman House in Auburn, died at the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn, with her loving family by her side. Born in Lewiston on January 3, 1927, she was the daughter of Algueric and Aldea Gauthier Roy. Educated in Auburn, she went to work with her mother in the family business, Roy’s Beauty Salon in New Auburn. She was the second of three generations working at the family business.
