Constance D. (Hunter) Ayotte, 69, of New Auburn, died at Central Maine Medical Center on Saturday, June 24, after a brief illness.  She was born in Augusta, Maine on July 1, 1947, the eldest child of Thomas Sr. and Dorothy (Hoffmann) Hunter.  She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1965 and attended Gorham State College (USM), graduating with a B.S. in Education in 1969.  She taught for over 40 years at schools in Lewiston, Auburn and Lisbon, retiring in 2012.  She enjoyed reading, playing games and traveling with her husband of 48 years Francis (Frank) Ayotte.  …

Josiah O. Mann, 92, of Leeds passed away on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, 2017, at home with  loving family members by his side. He was born in Paterson, NJ on April 12, 1925, the son of Josiah and Sophia Suffern Mann, brother to Christopher, John Robert, and Charles. He graduated from Ramsey High School, Class of ’43. He proudly served his country in the navy during World War II, and received the Purple Heart after his ship hit a mine in the English Channel. He was a member of the VFW as well as the American Legion. He worked for the New York State Mental Hygiene for 35 years and retired to Maine in 1980 and loved his “camp” in Androscoggin Lake in Leeds. …

Louis J. O’Brien, 1942 - 2017

Louis O'Brien died peacefully at his home in Auburn on June 17, 2017 at age 75. He was born on Jan 24, 1942.  He was the youngest of 8 children. He was a proud member of Laborers' Local Union 327. One of his earliest jobs was the construction of the Maine Yankee Power Plant and he retired while decommissioning Maine Yankee having also work on many area projects. He is survived by 2 daughters, 3 step-daughters, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Alida Berube O’Brien, and his wife of 42 years, Shirley Ouellette O’Brien, and a step-daughter.

 David E. McNelly, 64, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, June 18th, 2017. He died peacefully in his home in Litchfield, Me. He was born January 28th, 1953 in Calais, Me to Arnold and Alice Stevens McNelly. He was married to Monique Blais of Lewiston, Me on January 14th, 1972. They have two children; Katrina, 38, of Litchfield, Me and Jennifer, 35, of Waterville, Me.  He has three sisters; Priscilla and her husband Arthur Torella of Dover, NH; Patricia and late husband Richard Adams of Norway, Me; and Marcia and her husband Wayne Seger of Lewiston, Me. …

Georgette R. Pomerleau, 74, formerly of 11 Tammy Lane, Lewiston, and a resident of Clover Healthcare Facility in Auburn for the past three years, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on May 27, 1943, she was the daughter of George and Roseanna Moreau Houle. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ‘61. On May 11, 1963, she married Roland Pomerleau. Mr. Pomerleau passed away on November 1, 2004. Georgette loved to travel, and she and her husband especially enjoyed cruises. …

Carmen I. Morin, 92, formerly of 45 Old Greene Road, Lewiston, and a resident of Schooner Estates in Auburn for the past seven years, died Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on December 9, 1924, she was the daughter of George and Imelda Gagne Bosse. She grew up in Little Canada, and on August 14, 1945, she married Rene L. Morin. Mr. Morin passed away on July 14, 2006. Carmen worked for several years in the local shoe industry and for Raytheon, and she was a dedicated wife and mother. Carmen loved to dance, cook for her family, and was a talented seamstress. …

Robert N. Bedard, 76, of 32 Deerfield Drive, Sabattus, died at his home on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Born in Lewiston on January 24, 1941, he was the son of Rosario and Mary Jane Beaulieu Bedard. Educated in local schools, he married the former Anita C. Nadeau on November 10, 1962. He worked for many years as a hand sewer at several local shoe shops, including Quoddy, L.L. Bean, Cumberland Shoe, and Cole Haan. He was a talented woodworker, and after his retirement devoted his time and energy to his craft. A member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, he is survived by his loving wife, Anita of Sabattus, two sons, Ricky and wife Alarice of Manchester, and Normand of New Auburn, a brother, Maurice and wife Anne of Lisbon, two sisters, Pauline and husband Gerald Tardiff of Sabattus, and Claire and husband Robert Levasseur New Auburn, three grandchildren, Amanda Saunders, Nicholas Bedard, and Brynna Bedard, and two great-grandchildren, Folken and Raydon Saunders. …

Yzette M. P. Vachon, 93, of Lewiston, died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Montello Manor, where she had been a resident for the past two years. Born in Lewiston on December 19, 1923.  She was the daughter of Rosario J. and Jeannette Martin Dionne. Educated in local schools, she married Wifred Vachon on November 27, 1969.  Mr. Vachon passed away on August 3, 1990.  She worked for many years in the dental practice of Dr. Marcotte, and then as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Following her retirement, she volunteered at both St. Mary’s and Central Maine Medical Center. …

Robert “Bob” Allen, 87, a resident of Auburn, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston on the evening of Monday, May 29, 2017.  Throughout the day he was surrounded by his wife, his children, and grandchildren, and he passed with his wife and two grandchildren at his side.  Bob was born in Salem, MA, on May 22, 1930,  and graduated from Salem High School.  After graduation, he joined the Navy and served two years. In 1952 the Navy released him in San Diego with $5.00 in his pocket, and he made his way back to Massachusetts.  In 1953, he married Bertha Tetenman and had four children.  …

David W. Collins Jr., 1936 - 2017

David W. Collins, Jr. 80, husband and best friend of 55 years died at home on May 24, 2017 in Old Orchard Beach with his family by his side. Son of David and Ruth V Arnold Collins, he was born in Lewiston on August 3, 1936. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1954, and then went to Kents Hill Prep where he played football, baseball and basketball. He joined the Navy in 1956 and after 4 years was honorably discharged as a Air Controlman Second Class. He returned to Maine and worked as a Bell Captain at the Poland Spring Hotel, that summer he met his future wife Anita. …
