Dulac Obit Pic

Anita M. Fortin Dulac, age 91, died peacefully after a brief illness, on December 12 at St. Mary's Hospital.  She was born in Lisbon on August 30, 1926, daughter of Emile and Bella Ouellette Fortin.  She was the eldest of six children.  She attended schools in Lisbon and later went to Bliss Business School, where she excelled in spelling and shorthand.  Her work history, besides working in a shoe shop and for an attorney for a short period of time, was as a Loan Officer at Peoples Savings Bank where she retired after 40 years. Her passions were singing, dancing, sewing, knitting, crocheting lap robes for cancer patients at The Dempsey Center, playing cards with friends and spending time with family, and she also loved the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed worshiping him at the Court Street Baptist Church.  She sewed many clothes for her three daughters as they were growing up.  Anita was gifted with a beautiful voice and was often called on to sing at weddings and special events. Her favorite song was I Love You Truly, which she sang often for her family. Her family loved to hear her yodel.  On May 18,1946 she married Normand Fortin and he died on October 20,1985 at the age of 62, after a very long illness and 39 years of marriage.  They had three daughters,  Pauline Cote and her husband Dennis of Brunswick, Connie and husband Rev. Dan Michaud of New Gloucester, and Helen and husband John Belisle of Greene.  In 1988, she met and married Chester Dulac and they spent 26 years together in a house that Chester helped build on Gulf Island Road in Lewiston, before his death in 2014. Anita was predeceased by two brothers, Larry and Normand Fortin and one sister, Lorraine Purple, and leaves behind two sisters,  Nancy and husband Robert Flanders of E. Wilton, and Jane and husband Richard Champagne of Lewiston.  She had nine grandchildren, one step granddaughter, seven great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.  A celebration of Anita's life will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine Street, Lewiston, Monday, December 18, from 1 PM - 3 PM followed by a short service at 3:00 pm. We want to send a special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at St. Mary's Residences, especially Larry Morin, and Celine in the office, to Bibianne Laliberte for all her kindness and help with our mother, and to all Anita’s good friends and neighbors at St. Mary’s Residences.  A special thank you also to our little angel, Nancy Dumais, who was a loving and devoted companion to Anita. We also want to thank the amazing staff at St. Mary's Hospital in the ER and ICU units.  She received excellent care and they were very devoted to she and our family.  Flowers are welcomed, or you may choose to send a donation to a charity of your choice.
