Richard Guy Dulac, 60, of Lewiston, died following a couragous battle with Melanoma on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Born in Lewiston on May 1, 1952, he was the son of Wilfrid and Germaine Dulac. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’71. On August 25, 1977 he married the love of his life, the former Claire Pelletier. He was a dedicated and hard worker, employed by Bath Iron Works for the last 30 years. He was a member of the Raboni Lodge 150, Valley of the Androscoggin Scottish Rites, Kora Shrine, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 106. …

Armand J. Buteau, 1936 - 2013

Armand J. Buteau, 76, of 24 Gammon Road, Buckfield, died unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Born in Lewiston, on July 1, 1936, he was the son of Joseph and Yvonne Buteau. Educated in local schools, he was employed for many years by the Lewiston Gas Company, and at several local construction companies as a carpenter. Armand enjoyed summers at Riverbend Campground, going out to eat, and taking day trips with family, especially to Old Orchard Beach. He was a social butterfly and had an infectious smile which will be missed dearly. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Anita (Bouchard) Buteau of Buckfield, five children; Pauline Sawyer and husband Peter of Buckfield, Diane Parent and husband Skip of Hampden, Tina Foster and husband Rob of Sabattus, Dan Buteau and wife Anne of Shipman, VA, and Dale Buteau and wife Crystal of Wales, twelve grandchildren; Sheena Foster, Mellon Sawyer, Kyle Sawyer, Craig Sawyer, Kelsey Buteau, Liam Parent, Levi Buteau, Emily Parent, Danny Buteau, Tristan Parent, Zoe Buteau, and Elizabeth Buteau, and three great-grandchildren, Jordan Sawyer, Aliyah Sawyer, and Bryanna Foster. …

Coyne Joseph Turcotte, 1946 - 2013

Coyne Joseph Turcotte, 66, finally took a knee on January 25, 2013 in his battle with pancreatic cancer, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Coyne was born on September 14, 1946, the only child of Edward Joseph and Rose (Cassista) Turcotte. He was named Coyne after his paternal grandmother, Mary Ellen “Stella” Coyne of County Mayo, Ireland.  It was a name he bore with tremendous pride.

He attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1964.  He entered the University of Maine, Orono, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.  …

Irene Y. Sirois, 1919 - 2013

Irene Y. Sirois, 93, formerly of Switzerland Road, Lewiston, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2013, at the Woodlands Senior Living in Brewer. She was born in Lewiston on September 14, 1919, the daughter of Phillip and Ida Bourget Saucier. She attended Lewiston schools. In 1942, she married Bertrand Sirois. They were married 48 years and had two children. She worked for many years as stitcher at Knapp Shoe in Lewiston, retiring in 1981. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, and loved working in her garden, raising vegetables and flowers. She also enjoyed mowing her lawns. …

Lucille Biron, 94, formerly of 20 Great Falls Plaza and a resident of Clover Manor for the past four years, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, after a short illness. A life-long resident of Lewiston-Auburn,  She was born in Lewiston on October 5, 1918, the daughter of Onil & Lucie Brochu Rivard.  Upon her mother’s death she was raised by her grandparents Joseph and Odele Berube. Lucille married George Preo and they had three children; her two daughters, Doris “Dodie” Chretien Walsh and Diane Preo Landry, and a son, Robert A. Preo. …

William Scolnik, 1913 - 2013


William Scolnik, a lifelong resident of Lewiston, died in Auburn on January 22, 2013.  He was 99 years old.  William was amiable, circumspect, staunch in his support of the principles of Judaism and a fixture at Bates College athletic events.  A dependable source of moral support for the Boston Red Sox, he was generous about their frequent disappointments.

William’s parents were Kalman and Mary Scolnik, each of whom immigrated to Lewiston in the early years of the last century.  Like his brothers, Samuel and Edward, he was a graduate of Bates College, in his case with the Class of 1935.  …

Gerard Lionel Charest, 89, of Lewiston, died at his home on Monday, January 14, 2013. Born on April 21, 1923, in Saint Pascal, P.Q., Canada, he was the son of Thomas and Amanda Charest, and moved to Lewiston Junction in Auburn with his family in June of 1923. Educated locally, he left school and joined the U.S. Army in November of 1942, serving in the Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in February of 1946. He returned to Lewiston and finished his high school, graduating in 1946. On April 7, 1951, he married the former Dorothy L. Carrier, and they made their home in Lewiston and summered in Harpswell. …

Gilbert Vaillancourt, 88, of Auburn, died January 10, 2013, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lowell Mass on October 10, 1924, the son of Peter and Laura Roy Vaillancourt. While growing up, Gil secretly incubated and hatched chickens in his father’s basement, and has had a love of chickens ever since. He later attended Lewiston High School and helped his team win the Maine State Hockey Championship in 1942. Gil served in the Army during World War II driving a Sherman tank and occasionally served as interpreter for the commanding officer when in France. …

Simonne A. Sirois, 1930 - 2013

Simonne A. Sirois, 82, formerly of 312 Pond Road, Lewiston, and a longtime resident of Ninth Street in Auburn, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at the d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston, where she had been a resident for the past 3 years. Born in Lewiston on June 7, 1930, she was the daughter of Adelard and Antonia Roy.  Educated locally, she married Marcel G. Sirois and they made their home in New Auburn. Mr. Sirois passed away on November 26, 1972. Prior to her retirement, Simonne worked in the local shoe industry for many years, mostly at Falcon Shoe. A member of New Auburn Senior Citizens, she enjoyed Bingo, bus trips with her friends, and was known for her knitting. …
