Yvette I. St. Laurent, 80, of 37 Orange Street, Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. Yvette was born in Lewiston, Maine on November 16, 1933; she was the daughter of Alphee and Clarisse (Pomerleau) Grenier. She was educated in local schools in Lewiston.  She worked as a fancy stitcher at Clark Shoe for many years and then ran a successful business with her husband, “Dick’s Variety” for 15 years, on the corner of Lisbon and Chestnut streets in Lewiston. She enjoyed spending time with her family after retirement at Parlin Pond and her cabin in Jackman Maine.  …

Irene M. Plourde, 86, formerly of 378 Foster Road, Auburn, died at the d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston on December 10, 2013. Born in Lewiston on August 10, 1927, she was the daughter of Alphonse and Jean Durocher Bisson. Educated in local schools, she married Gaston “Gus” Plourde on October 12, 1946. Mr. Plourde passed away on October 16, 2012. Prior to her retirement, she worked several different jobs, including as a spinner in the local textile industry, for Globe Albany (now Gates Formed Fiber), and for Raytheon. A member of Sacred Heart Church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, she had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, enjoyed any gathering of family and friends, going to the beach, crochet, and especially loved time spent with her grandchildren. …

Irene Joan Palian, 88, of 22 Deforge Street, Lewiston, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Born in Morgan, PA, on September 16, 1925, she was the daughter of Walter and Josephine Orlowska Bozecka. Educated in Pennsylvania schools, she married Charles Palian in 1947. They moved several times while he served in the Navy, finally settling in Lewiston in 1964. Mr. Palian passed away in 1989. A longtime member of the former St. Joseph’s Church, she belonged to Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, she was also active in the Robin Dow Senior Citizens, the DAV Women’s Auxiliary, and also volunteered for Holy Family’s Bingo. …

Michael Louis Roy, 59, a former resident of Lewiston, and Monmouth, died, following a long illness, on December 6, 2013, at his home  in Bethel, Vermont, where he’d been living for the past 3 years. Michael was born Nov. 6, 1954 in Lewiston, ME, the first born son of Eugene R. Roy and Madeleine C. (Pare) Roy. He attended Holy Cross school and graduated from St. Dominic's High School, Class of ‘72. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. A pacifist at heart, he served in the Seabees Mobile Construction Battalion 74, in California, Mississippi, Guam, and Diego Garcia. …

Florida O. Sasseville, 96, of Schooner Estates, Auburn, formerly of Hall Street, Lewiston, died at Russell Park Manor in Lewiston on December 25, 2013. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Louis P. Sasseville, in 1999. She was born in Newburyport, MA, on March 24, 1917, the daughter of Armand and Emilina (Couture) Dufresne Sr. She attended local schools and graduated from Acme Business School. She is survived by her four children, Theresa Fuller, Claire Poussard and husband Reginald Sr., Maurice and wife Anna, and Paul and wife Gail, nine grand-children, and sixteen great grand-children. …
