Fern M. Desjardin, 1935 - 2013



Fern Desjardin passed away at her Auburn home on April 28th after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Lewiston on December 8, 1935, the daughter of Dominique and Muriel (Minihane) Tardif.

She is survived by her three children, Clement “Skip” Desjardin of West Hartford, CT, Beth Flynn of Auburn, and Thomas Desjardin of Pittsfield. She also leaves a brother, D.J. Tardif, Jr. of Rockport, MA, and a sister, Patricia Crowley of Yarmouth, along with six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Fern was a member of Lewiston High School’s Class of ‘53 and attended Gorham State Teacher’s College. …

Murray S. Rubinstein, 1928 - 2013


Murray S. Rubinstein, 85, of Lewiston, passed away on Saturday, April 27th at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in New York City on February 11th, 1928. He graduated from Hunter College and went on to continue his education and obtain his Masters in Biology from Columbia University. On February 5, 1955, Murray married the love and light of his life, Estelle, in New York.

Murray served in the US Army followed by short a career in teaching and liquor sales. Murray also opened a glove factory in Livermore Falls, with longtime friend Bob Allen. …

France L. Poussard, 1923 - 2013

France L. Poussard, 89, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, April 20, 2013, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice Services in Auburn, after a short stay.  She was born in Lewiston on October 3, 1923, the daughter of Esdras and Georgianna Prevost Larrivee. She married Arthur Poussard on December 31, 1941. Art and Fran raised their seven children in SAbattus until 1967 when they moved to Lewiston. Art and Fran were the founders of Poussard’s Texaco in Sabattus Road, as well as Fran’s Dairy Treat. They retired and wintered in Florida for many years. …

Georgette V. Lavoie, 90, formerly of Lewiston, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Kent Specialty Care Center in Kent, CT, where she had been a resident for the past eight years. Born in Lewiston on January 6, 1923, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Emelie Beaucage Cliche. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School. In 1944 she was married to Bertrand R. Lavoie, who passed away in 1967. A member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, she is survived by three daughters; Janet and husband John Inness of Rochester, NY, Claire Lavoie and husband Kenney Bassett of North Hero, VT, and Suzanne Lavoie and partner Jay Przygocki of Washington, CT, two sons, Donald and wife Laurene of Sewickley, PA, and Daniel and wife Agnes of Bayonet Point, FL, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. …

Jean-Marc Desjardins, 92, formerly of Lewiston, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough, where he had been a resident for the past two years. Born in Andreville, P.Q., Canada on May 14, 1920, he was the son of Joseph and Ida Boucher Desjardins. Moving to Lewiston at a young age, he was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School. A veteran of World War II, Jean-Marc served in the U.S. Army’s 14th Ordnance Bomb Disposal Squad with great distinction, earning a Bronze Star. While serving in Europe he received a draft notice from the Canadian Army. …

James P. Gervais, 1947 - 2013

James P. Gervais, 65, was called home by his heavenly Father Monday, April 1, 2013, after a long illness. Formerly of Blake Street Towers, he passed at the Marshwood Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since December. Born in Lewiston on November 3, 1947, he was the son of Emery and Rita Ouellette Gervais. He was a kind and giving man who was always willing to listen and not judge. James enjoyed spending time at the ocean and the 12 Hour Club, and loved playing cribbage and being around family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Allysyn Gervais, grandson Cayden Colburn, his mother and father, a sister, Linda Tanguay, niece Veronica Deschenes and her family, loving girlfriend Brandi Bean, ex-wife Sheila Gurney, his best friend Bob Cedre, and a special young woman and her two beautiful daughters who always had a special place in his heart. …
