Gerald A. Guay, 82, of Lewiston, died August 22, in Lewiston.  He was born in Lewiston on December 24, 1930, the son of Albert and Elise St. Pierre Guay.  In 1950 he married Cecile Bourgea and together  they raised their family in Lewiston.  Gerald retired from the state as a boiler operator in 1995.  Gerald enjoyed bowling and watching animal shows on TV. or spending time with his dog Moxy and his cat TT.  Gerald is survived by his wife Cecile, his son Raymond and wife Linda of Lisbon Falls, a daughter Lorraine Merrick of Nobleboro, a brother Richard and wife Terry of Lewiston, a brother-in-law Roland Pleau of Lewiston, four grandchildren, Maureen, Kathy, Zack and Brandon, and two great grandchildren Jake and Rivers.  …

Maria Lavoie Tardif 1915 - 2013

Maria Lavoie Tardif, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, 19 August 2013 at the Freeport Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with her loving family by her side.  She was born in Auburn in October 1915, the daughter of Louis and Marie Laure (nee Tremblay) Poirier.  She was educated at local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1934 and went to work for a local dentist, Dr Paul Smith.  Maria married E. Armand Lavoie in 1939 and raised two sons and a daughter on Franklin Street in Lewiston.  Following her husband’s untimely death in 1964, she worked as a teller at a local bank.  …

Lorette Poulin, 76, formerly of Auburn, died Sunday, August 18, 2013. Born in Lewiston on November 13, 1936, she was the daughter of Joseph and Armande (Caron) Poulin. She belonged to the Red Hat Society. You could often find Lorette playing bingo and cards. All her life she loved dancing, anything the color red and her beloved cats! Survivors include a daughter, Claire and husband Shawn Sawyer of Mechanic Falls, three sons; Donald and wife Mary Jane of Sabattus, Maurice and wife Lisa of Irvine, California, Marcel and partner Liz Beck of Gray, two brothers; Gerard and wife Pauline of Lewiston, Normand and wife Joanne of Lewiston, three sisters; Rita and husband Raymond Letourneau of Lewiston, Pauline and husband Gerard Collet of Utah, Anita and husband Lou Long of Lewiston, eight grandchildren; David, Brittany, Crystal, James, Peter, Steven, Samantha, and Shawn Jr.

Elizabeth A. Daniels (known to her friends as Betty), 77, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Central Maine Medical Center. She was born at Augusta General Hospital on August 16, 1936, the daughter of Marion (Fierling) and David C. Colfer.  She attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1954. On June 25, 1955, she married Joseph Reginald Daniels and traveled with him to London, England during his stay in the Air Force until 1958 when they returned to the United States to raise their family.  …

David W. Steele, 71, of Auburn, passed away at his residence suddenly on Thursday, August 15, 2013. He was born in Portland, Maine on March 26, 1942, the son of Douglas W. and Althea Scribner Steele. On January 9, 1965, he married Marie Vincent of Auburn. He graduated from Deering High School in 1960, and the University of Southern Maine in 1964. He began his career in 1964, working for General Adjustment Bureau. While there, he held many positions which led him to live in numerous cities throughout New England before finally settling in Portland, Maine. He left GAB in 1990 to pursue an opportunity with Northern MGA and Dirigo Adjustment Services, located in Waterville, Maine where he stayed until his retirement. …

Ermioni “Minnie” Moskovis, 83, formerly of 261 Webster Street, Lewiston, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Marshwood Nursing Home. Born in Myrsini, Greece, on October 21, 1929, she was the daughter of Ilias and Stasini (Patrikarakou) Polimenakos. She married Peter J. Moskovis of Lewiston on July 9th, 1957. Mr Moskovis passed away in 1997. A great cook, she was a constant fixture at Pete’s Lunch, the restaurant she and her husband owned and operated in Lewiston for many years.  A beloved mother and grandmother, Minnie was also active in the local Greek community, especially through Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Greek Ladies Society. …

A. Ferne Beal Cyr, 1932 - 2013

A. Ferne Beal Cyr died peacefully in her sleep at the Hospice House in Auburn, Monday August 5, 2013, after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. Ferne was born in Augusta on May 13, 1932, to Cedric E. Beal and Ella Rae Richardson Beal. She grew up in the Bath and Woolwich area and graduated from Morse High School in 1950. She married Henry G. Cyr on June 25, 1955. He died on December 5, 1985. She retired from Liberty Mutual Ins Co after 18 years of service. She enjoyed doing many arts and crafts and was an avid reader. Ferne will be sadly missed by her family - children, Deborah J Hilliard and husband Danny of Stuart, FL, Steve R. …
