Bertrand E. Roy, 1932 - 2012

Bertrand E. Roy, 80, of Minot, passed away Friday, September 21 at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris. Born in Lewiston to George and Anna Flynn Roy on February 26, 1932, he graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn and served in the U.S. Army. He married Michaeline Pearl Delahanty in November of 1955. He was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, his two daughters; Brenda Perry and husband Frank of South Paris, and Rebecca of Buckfield, and a sister, Rita Bernier and her husband Roger of Rhode Island. He is predeceased by three sisters; Irene, Annette, and Yvette; and five brothers; Leo, Eugene, Roger, Gerald, and Raymond.

Chloe M. Elsman, aged 3 months, of Lewiston, passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Central Main Medical Center in Lewiston. Born in Norway on June 5, 2012, she was the daughter of Justin T. Elsman and Karen A. Sawyer. Besides her parents of Auburn, she is survived by three brothers; Conner Elsman, Caleb and Cody Sawyer, two sisters; Lindsey Tancrel and Jasmine Guptil, paternal grandparents; Josephine Rice of Canton, and John and Pat Elsman of Livermore Falls, maternal grandparents; Joann Tancrel of Greene, and Stephen Bernard of Auburn, maternal great-grandparents; Mary Bernard of Auburn, and Normand and Marie Tancrel of Greene, several aunts and uncles, including John Elsman of Lewiston, who was very close to Chloe, and Chloe’s other mommy and daddy, Ashley and Scott Doughty of Lewiston. …

Gordon L. Harris, 1932 - 2012

Gordon L. Harris, 74, of Auburn, died peacefully in Auburn on September 14, 2012, following a long struggle with Huntington’s disease. He was born in Charleston, SC, but lived for many years in the Washington DC area. He was a Quaker minister and had devoted his life to social justice and civil rights issues. He was known locally for his volunteer work in schools, hospitals and the library, where he especially enjoyed taking his dog Sky to be read to by the children.

Laurette Fortin Nolin, 89, of Montello Heights, Lewiston, and formerly of 30 Pleasant Street, Lewiston, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, with her family by her side. Born in Lewiston on November 29, 1922, she was the daughter of Albert and Rose Poulin Fortin. Educated in local schools, she married Louis P. Nolin on April 14, 1945. Mr. Nolin passed away in February of 2006. For many years she helped her husband operate the family’s jewelry store, Louis P. Nolin Jewelers. Marie S. Norgren, 81, of 17 Bull Run Road, Greene, and formerly of 300 East Avenue, Lewiston, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice Services in Auburn. Born in Purchase, NY, on May 30, 1931, she was the daughter of Vito and Catherine Girillo Sgobbo. She graduated from high school in White Plains, NY, and later went to secretarial school. On November 8, 1952, she married Henry R. Norgren Jr., who passed away on September 11, 1986. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for many years as the Sales Manager at Bell Manufacturing Company. …

Eleanor Simard, 92, formerly of Deerfield Beach, Florida, died peacefully with her family by her side on July 19, 2012, at Clover Health Care in Auburn, where she had been a resident for five years. She was born in Augusta on August 25, 1919, the daughter of Warren and Elizabeth Paradis Smart. Moving at a young age with her family to Lewiston, she was educated in local schools. She worked for many years in the shoe industry where she met the “love of her life”, Fernand Simard, whom she married on April 19, 1941. They were avid campers before retiring and leaving Lewiston for Deerfield Beach, Florida, in 1975. …

Laurent “Lon” Barriault, 84, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. Born in Lewiston on August 10, 1928, Lon was the son of Albert and Ludivine Dumont Barriault. Lon graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947, and while there he excelled at basketball, baseball, and tennis. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge on January 9, 1951. Auburn- Scott Patrick Swain, 59, of Auburn, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at his home. He was born October 23, 1952 in Burlington, Vermont, the son of Loring and Marjorie (Cleveland) Swain.

Scott spent his childhood in Mechanic Falls and Dixfield Maine and was a graduate of Dirigo High School in 1970. He married his beloved wife of 30 years, Tina (Crawford) Swain, on June 27, 1982 in Sabattus Maine. 

Scott's chosen career was truck driving and he loved everything to do with big trucks, even after he wasn't able to drive any longer due to a back injury. He was an avid musician. …

Normand Romeo Asselin, 82, of 210 Randall Road, Lewiston, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on September 23, 1929, he was the son of Romeo and Emma Rioux Asselin. Educated locally, he served with the U.S. Navy. Following his service, he returned to Lewiston and on July 11, 1953, married the former Dolores P. LaFlamme in Ss. Peter & Paul Church. Mrs. Asselin passed away on April 28, 2010. Normand worked several jobs over the years, including plant maintenance at Pepperell Mill, before retiring due to disability in 1969. …

Colette T. Albert, 95, Formerly of 254 Sabattus Street, Lewiston, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the Clover Manor in Auburn, where she had been a resident for several years. Born in Lewiston on October 17, 1916, she was the daughter of Ludger and Regina Morin Albert. She graduated from St. Patrick’s School, Lewiston High School, Class of ’35, the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, and the French Institute Alliance Française in New York City. She was proud of being the first female licensed funeral director in the state of Maine, and for 31 years she worked with her father, the founder of the Albert Funeral Home, now the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home. …

"Amy's Wish" is Kuritz's adaptation of James Caputo's award-winning short play with that title. The film recounts the story of a young girl facing her father's terminal illness and an encounter with a professional mourner at a local funeral parlor.

Georgette F. Marcoux, 1923 - 2012

Georgette F. Marcoux, 89, formerly of 21 Arkwright Avenue, Lewiston, died Thursday, August 30, 2012, at the Clover Manor in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on January 18, 1923, she was the daughter of Lucien and Jeanne Dubois Labrie. Educated in local schools, she worked as a bookkeeper for National Candy and Tobacco, United Grocers, and Jimmie’s Diner and Gas Stations. After retiring in 1985, she went to work part-time for the Dominican Fathers on Bartlett Street. She was married to Normand N. Marcoux, who passed away in 1968. Georgette loved to travel, and enjoyed spending vacations with family. …
