Alexander Davis Holman, 1921 - 2014

After a brief illness, Alexander Davis Holman, 93, passed away in Falmouth on November 24th surrounded by family. Alex was born in 1921, in Smithfield, North Carolina, the only son of Mildred Sanders Holman and Alexander Davis Holman, Sr.  He grew up in Smithfield and in various parts of the South. For a time, his parents ran the only hotel on Captiva Island in Florida. It was there that he discovered a life-long love of sailing. As a teen, he attended a military prep school in Georgia. During World War II, he joined the merchant marine. He had planned to train in navigation, but his father changed his registration papers to engineering instead, a decision which Alex later came to appreciate. …

Normand Louis Angers, 1932 - 2014

Normand Louis Angers, 82, of 5 Lemay Street, Lewiston, died peacefully on November 21st at the Hospice House after a brief and sudden illness. Born in Lewiston on February 11, 1932, he was the son of Lucien and Marie Anne Sirois Angers. Educated in local schools, he graduated with the Class of ’50 from St. Dominic's High School. He entered the army and was based in Okinawa during the Korean conflict. Upon his return, he went to work for West Point Pepperell as Chief Electrician. It was there he met the love of his life and in 1957 married Monette Richard. When Pepperell closed in 1969, Normand (Norm) worked for the Electrician's Union on the construction of the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Plant. …

Anita M. Plourde, 1924 - 2014

Anita M. Plourde, 90, a resident of d’Youville Pavilion for the past three years, died Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on July 18, 1924, she was the daughter of George and Henriette Cormier Lajoie. Educated in local schools, she married Lionel Plourde in 1952. Mr. Plourde passed away in 1984. Anita worked at several different places over the years, retiring from Pioneer Plastics in 1986. She was a longtime resident of Riverside Drive in Auburn, and took great pride in maintaining her home’s appearance and landscaping. …

Mary E. Hinkley, 1919 - 2014

Mary E. Hinkley, 95, formerly of 122 Second Street, Auburn, died Thursday, October 23, 2014, at the Clover Manor in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on February 1, 1919, she was the daughter of Charles and Regina Arsenault Roberts. Educated in local schools, she was employed for many years as a spinner in the textile industry. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was an excellent cook and loved having her family over for Saturday beans and Sunday dinner. Survivors include a son, Walter and wife Sue of Auburn, a daughter, Margaret and husband Robert Belanger of Lewiston, a brother, Richard Roberts and wife Lorraine of Lewiston, six grandchildren; Marc and Daniel Ouellette of Phoenix, AZ, Michael and wife Amy Hinkley of Auburn, Debbie and husband Michael Carrier of Saco, Diane Plunkett of Lewiston, and Richard Ouellette and wife Misty of Lewiston, with whom Mary lived since 2008, eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. …

Lucille T. Thibodeau, 88, of Auburn, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Clover Manor in Auburn. Born in Bangor on June 25, 1926, she was the daughter of Alphonse and Anna Bolduc Bernier. She was educated in Catholic schools. In 1946, she married Wallace Thibodeau, who passed away in 2010. Together they had three children and settled in Lewiston. She worked for several years as a seamstress at the Pepperell Mill. Lucille was a quiet homebody, who devoted herself to her children and grandchildren. She loved to sew, knit, cook, and decorate, and also loved to swim at the YMCA on a regular basis. …

William P. Palman, 1923 - 2014

William P. Palman, 91, of 412 East Avenue, Lewiston, died at his home on Monday, November 3, 2014, following a long illness. Born in Lewiston on February 23, 1923,he was the son of Thomas and Apolonia Popowich Palman. Educated locally, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’41. He joined the U.S. Army at the start of World War II, and served in North Africa, Italy, and France. After the war he returned to Lewiston, and in 1946 he joined the family's business cleaning windows for local businesses throughout the Lewiston-Auburn area, a job he did always with a smile well into his 80's. …

Monique G. Tardif, 1936 - 2014

Monique G. Tardif, 78, died peacefully on October 29, 2014 after Alzheimer’s slowly took her away from us. She was born on February 5, 1936 to Amedee & Genaise Gervais Dion in Lewiston, ME. She graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1953. Monique met Gilles P. Tardif at St. Dom’s, and they were married February 12, 1955.  She was employed at Household Finance until they moved to Massachusetts, and they lived up and down the east coast, where their four children were born and she was a stay-at-home Mom. In 1973, Monique was hired as the Office Manager at Skate 3 in Tyngsboro, MA, until her retirement in 2001.  …

Ida Cyr Nolin, 1917 - 2014

Ida Cyr Nolin, 96, formerly of 10 Hemlock Circle, Auburn, died Saturday, November 1, 2014, at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston where she had been a resident for the past year. Born in Frenchville on November 15, 1917, she was the daughter of Baptiste and Flavie Caron Gervais. Educated in local schools, she worked for many years as a beautician in Biddeford, and also owned her own parlor in Chula Vista, CA. Following the death of her first husband, Emile Cyr, she married Henry D. Nolin, who passed away in 2001. A member of Sacred Heart Church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, she is survived by a step-daughter, Gloria  and husband John Tewhey of Gorham, a  brother, John Gervais and Donna of Fayetteville, NC, two sisters, Elizabeth Millette of Harmony, and Annette Hilton of Vermont, and several nieces and nephews.
