Carmelle U. Lamarre Belanger, 96, formerly of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Clover Manor in Auburn, where she had been a resident since 2011. Her family was with her throughout the day to surround her with love and affection and to share fond memories. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, and she was loved and adored by everyone who knew her. The youngest of six children, she was born in Brunswick on July 24, 1920, to Napoleon and Marie Louise Guerette Lamarre. She was educated in Lewiston schools and worked in Auburn shoe shops. In a double wedding ceremony on June 29, 1940, she married Arthur R. “Lou” Belanger and her sister Irene married Leon “Spark” Pellerin. Lou and Carmelle owned and operated two well known restaurants in Lewiston, Lou’s place and Lou’s Den. They also owned standard bred race horses which were kept at the former Lewiston Race Track. She was a member of S.S.  Peter & Paul Basilica, Prince of Peace Parish. She is survived by her daughter Joanne and husband Ron Bouchard; her sons Richard and his wife Sandra, Raymond and his wife Eileen, and Roger and his longtime friend Denise Keene: nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and a very dear friend, Madeleine Bilodeau. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-five years and her siblings Marie Coulombe, Jeanne Gilbert Lucille Tetu, Irene Pellerin and Emilien Lamarre.



Funeral Notice


BELANGER, Carmelle, 96, of Auburn, died in Auburn on March 10, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, 9 - 11 AM, followed by a Liturgy of the Word Service in the funeral home at 11 AM. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
