Christos John Gregory Mendros, 1961 - 2017

Mendros Obit Pic

Christos (Chris) John Gregory Mendros (Χρήστος Μενδράκος) joined his father, John G Mendros M.D, on Thursday, March 23rd, in heaven, surrounded by loved ones, at his home in Waterville.

Born the son of John Mendros M.D and Florentia (Poulikakos) Mendros on April 29, 1961, he graduated from LHS in 1979. His collegiate journey comprised Boston University, SUNY Purchase, Harvard, USM and Ashford University, culminating with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. His kindness and wisdom touched thousands of fortunate lives.

Chris published two books of poetry: You’ll See: Notes From This Side as Cretan Maineiac and A Striving After Wind: More Notes From This Side as Christos Mendrakos.  A third is to be published posthumously.

He is survived by his fiancée and partner in crime, Stephanie Welling, formerly of Ohio and currently in Waterville and her mother, Terry Welling; his mother, Mrs. Mendros; his sister, Jaye (Mendrakos) Goulet, her husband, Ron, and their children: Raymond, John and Jason; his brother, George Mendros of Taunton, MA, and Maria (Kyranos) Mendros and their children: John G Mendros II, Nicholas Mendros and Julia Mendros and George’s partner, Luisa Medieros; his brother, Hon. Stavros J. Mendros, his wife Cynthia (Bucklin) Mendros, and their children: Florentia (Tia) and Reagan; his aunt, Dorothy (Mendros) and uncle, George Pappavasiliou of Saco; uncle, Jimmy and aunt, Nikki Mendros of Kittery; aunt, Thekla Mendros of Oklahoma; and aunt, Panaiota Poulikakos of Stephania, Laconia, Greece; his closest friend, Kevin Landry and his wife Monique; and scores of cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Mendros; his godparents, Gregory (Roy) and Joanna Mendros of Biddeford; many other aunts and uncles, including his uncle, Christos G. Mendros (1923-1930), who was his namesake; six cousins: George R. Mendros, Patricia Ladakakos Sommerville, Poulikos Poulikakaos, George Anagnostos, Angeliki Poulikakos and Stavroula Poulikakos; and one great-nephew, Alexander Caras of Saco; his Montreal Expos and his mother’s confirmed ancestor, King Leonides of Sparta.

He believed the rapture had already occurred but so few people qualified no one noticed them.

He was the jerk store’s top all time seller and excelled at trivia.

No Void Hour will be the same. There was one?
