Claire T. Langelier, 84, of Portland, formerly of Lewiston and Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away in Portland on March 15, 2013. She was surrounded by her family and being held by her beloved husband of 64 years. She was born in Lewiston on January 3, 1929, the daughter of Henry and Bernadette Plante Croteau. Claire grew up in Lewiston, graduating from Lewiston High School, Class of ‘48. She married Lionel Langelier on June 25, 1949. Together they owned and operated first a variety store followed by restaurants in Lewiston, the last one being Nel's Steer House. As well as a hard working entrepreneur, Claire was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. When dementia overtook her, she still displayed her humor and quick wit. She will be remembered for “telling it as it is.” Nel lovingly cared for her at home until she required more care and a safer environment. She moved in to Fallbrook Woods in Portland and was treated as a family member of that community by the loving and caring staff for the past year. Claire is survived by her loving husband Nel, four daughters; Louise Grimmel, Diane Hughes, Jane Kremer and her husband Mark, and Lee Webber and her husband Jim, five grandchildren; Jennifer Brown and her husband Jamie, Andrea Goulet and significant other Noah Doran, Bobbie Blanchard and husband DJ, Sean Hughes and significant other Danielle Guy and Hans Kremer, five great-grandchildren; Madison and Hunter Brown, Delanie Doran, Brock Boutin and Logan Blanchard, a sister, Louise Ouellette, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson Brandon Brooks, two brothers, Ludger Croteau and Robert Croteau, nephew and godson Paul Ouellette, and her parents. Claire’s family would like to thank the staff of Fallbrook Woods for their kind, generous, compassionate care of Claire during her stay there. Although all the staff is deserving of recognition, we would like to express special thanks to Katelyn, Elysia, Theresa, Pam, Dan and Katie. 



LANGELIER, Claire, 84, of Portland, died in Portland on March 15, 2013. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 21,  at 10 AM, with a Liturgy of the Word Service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
