Constance G. Currie, 1921 - 2015

Constance G. Currie, 93 of Auburn, died September 25th at her home with her family by her side.  Born in Van Buren, Maine, November 21, 1921, the seventh child of seventeen, to Thomas and Gertrude (Gagnon) Ouellette. She was a resident of the Lewiston and Auburn community since coming to Nursing School in 1940.  She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1943 at the top of her class, and the first in the State. In June of 1944 she was married to Merrill T. Currie at St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston. Throughout her career she worked in various Nursing capacities, the last 25 years in Supervision at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Lewiston and Auburn Catholic community, volunteering whenever there was a need; whether cooking for the Lenten luncheons at St. Joseph’s or baking sixty-five apple pies for the St. Phillips Christmas Fair. But, her most beloved service was that of Eucharistic minister.  She attended Mass daily and was a communicant of weekly Eucharistic Adoration.   She had an incredible inner and physical strength which she gave full credit to God. On any given day, no matter what task were at hand, she could often be heard saying,” I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Throughout her life she opened her heart and home to many, hosting several gathering a year for all occasions.  She was always on a mission; whether it be strawberry, blueberry or apple picking, canning or baking.  She loved being outdoors tending to her yard and many flower gardens. Connie had an unwavering faith in God, which was manifested by the selfless loving care she freely gave to family, friends and patients, always giving generously to those in need and less fortunate.  She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister and a compassionate nurse. Survivors include her daughters; LouAnn and Patrice Currie, Jean Marie Currie and husband William Lee, Lisa Mancini and husband Robert, a son, Marc Currie and wife Brenda. Her sisters; Diane Ouellette, Gertrude Matthews, Theresa Brooks and husband Blaine. Seven grandchildren and six great grand children.   A special thanks to her grand children; Evan, Ganan and Caitlyn who were often by her side during her illness and throughout her life. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Merrill T. and son, Merrill T. Currie, Jr., and six sisters and six brothers.

Funeral Notice 

CURRIE, Constance, 93, died in Auburn on September 25, 2015. Visitation will be Thursday, 9 - 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Philips Church in Auburn. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Maine Right to Life, 4 Washington Street, PO Box 257, Auburn, ME 04210.
