Dorothy Anne Poole, 87, died peacefully after a brief illness at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina on April 2, 2015. “Dot” was born on October 19, 1927 in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of Oliver William and Mariam Hammett Dodd. She was raised in Greenville, SC, and graduated from Greenville High School in 1944. She continued her schooling and graduated from college with a passion for early childhood education. On December 4, 1946 Dot married her lifelong companion of 56 years, William Vernon Poole. Over the years they moved frequently with employment opportunity for Vernon, and Dorothy continued with her career working in various child care facilities. Dot was fortunate enough to have her own daycare eventually settling in Lewiston, Maine from 1973-1983. Dorothy had three of her own children, Brenda Kay, Susan Lynn, and Cynthia Ann, who taught her more than any professor. She loved being a mother, a grandmother, and even a great grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Kay Turner of Boiling Springs, SC, and Susan Roy of Greene, ME, and son in law David Thibodeau of Lewiston. She has 5 grandchildren, Kaleb Roy and Jamey Roy Cotnoir, Ashley and Ryan Thibodeau and Josh Turner. She has 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband William Vernon Poole in December 2002, and her daughter Cynthia Thibodeau in August 2012. She had also lost two son in laws, Susan’s husband James P Roy of Greene and Kay’s husband Ben Turner III of Boiling Spring, SC. Her precious grandson lost his life too soon, Mike Turner died November 2012. Both of Dot’s sisters passed as well, Mary Frances Duffie and Helen Vaughn both of Greenville, SC. 

Funeral Notice

POOLE, Dorothy, 87, died in Spartanburg, South Carolina on April 2, 2015. Visitation and a celebration of her life will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 6 - 8 PM. Interment, Valley Cemetery in Greene.
