Dorothy E. Prince, 1916 - 2017

Dorothy Eileen Kennedy Prince, of Lewiston, passed away at Woodlands Memory Care in Lewiston on Friday, January 20, 2017, at the age of 100. A native of Manchester, N.H., she moved to the Lewiston-Auburn area in 1994. She was a member of the Bates College Class of 1938, attending on full scholarship. She considered her experience at Bates one of the highlights of her life. She worked in Washington, D.C., as a Congressional secretary, and as secretary to the Foreign Service Examining Board, where she met her husband, Edward. This commenced her life as a Foreign Service spouse with the attendant diplomatic duties expected of Foreign Service wives as well as of their husbands. Their foreign assignments included Budapest, Hungary, Montreal, Canada, Wellington, New Zealand, Helsinki, Finland, Dublin, Ireland, Ankara, Turkey and Tehran, Iran. The family also lived in Washington, D.C. while her husband was at the State Department. They retired to Tamworth, NH, in 1973, where she was active in her church, in a community chorale, as a member of the local library board, and with national Catholic groups. After her husband’s death in 1980, she remained in Tamworth until moving to Schooner Estates in Auburn in 1994. She has been a devoted member of St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Auburn. She moved to Woodlands in Lewiston at the age of 100 in 2016. She is survived by her four children, Noelle Prince Shear and husband William Shear of Farmville, VA; Jonathan Prince of Sacramento, California;  Philip Prince of Hillsboro, Oregon; and Anthony Prince of Hanoi, VN, and his wife Phuong.  Additionally, four grandchildren, Justin Shear, Charlotte Prince, Jessica Prince Morris and Ronnie Prince survive her, as well as Vietnamese stepdaughter, Tu. Her sister Joan Anderson of Southbury, Connecticut also survives her, as do numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Notice

PRINCE, Dorothy, 100, of Lewiston, died in Lewiston on January 20, 2017. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Phillip’s Church in Auburn at a later date. She will be interred in Chocorua, NH. Donations may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
