Dorothy Lifshitz, 1920 - 2015

Obit Pic

Dorothy Lifshitz passed away peacefully on April 9, 2015 at Bay Square at Yarmouth at the age of 94. Dorothy was born in Lewiston, the eldest child of Ethel and Joseph Lifshitz, and was predeceased by her younger siblings, Sylvia, Harold and Shepard Lee. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Jeff, Donald, David and Larry Lee; Beth, Adam, Cathy and Jonathan Lee. Dorothy lived in Lewiston most of her life and worked in her father’s car dealership in Auburn, Advance Auto Sales. While she struggled with periodic depression, she had her pleasures such as her visits to her sister, Sylvia, in New York City, lunch at the Nanking restaurant in Lewiston with her nephew Jonathan, and visits with her eight nieces and nephews and their children. She was an avid correspondent, loved her daily walks in Lewiston, never forgot a birthday, had a formidable recall of dates of events going back 75 years and was an enthusiastic jazz devotee. In her last decade, while living in assisted living facilities in Auburn and Yarmouth, Dorothy blossomed into a sociable and loving soul who cherished those around her and won their hearts. Her family appreciated that this joy came to her late in life. We say goodbye to Dorothy knowing that she found happiness being with others – and they with her. We will miss her.
