Gerard D. Cloutier, 1918 - 2013

Gerard D. Cloutier, 94, of Lewiston passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 10, 2013 at the home of his son, Donald where he has resided for the past year and a half. He was born in Lewiston, November 19, 1918, son of Dominique W. and Emelia (Beliveau) Cloutier. He married the love of his life Therese N. Nadeau on June 26, 1948 at SS Peter & Paul Church. 

He was a 1938 graduate of Lewiston High School and a graduate of Acme Business School. He was a military veteran having served his country in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific from 1941-1945 in the 43rd Division. He was employed by H.P. Hood as a delivery man for 29 years and then at Pioneer Plastics until his retirement. 

He was a huge fan of ice hockey, an official for amateur teams that played at the “arena” known today as the Colisee, including the L/A Twins and the Maine Nordiques. Thereafter, he was an American Hockey League official for the Maine Mariners in Portland and the Portland Pirates. He was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins and the Red Sox. 

He has been a lifelong member of SS Peter and Paul Basilica and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed deer hunting and trips up north for moose hunting with his son, Bob and nephew Peter.

He is survived by his sons Donald and wife Martine, Robert and wife Joline, five grandchildren, Jody Cloutier and wife Kristy, Jason Cloutier and wife Arlyn, Michelle Thibault and husband John, Jennie Cloutier-Austin and husband Adam, and Stacy Cloutier and fiancée Joshua Bonaventura-Sparagna, three great-grandchildren, John Cloutier, Carter Austin, and Brianna Borden-Cloutier and soon to be great-grandson, Brayden Austin. Four step-grandchildren, Tina Letourneau, Victor Ingram, Veronica Ducharme, Peggy Hockett. Nine step great-grandchildren: Desiree Ducharme, Trevor Ducharme, Skylar Ducharme, Cody Letourneau, Kelsey Letourneau, Megan Ingram, Amanda Ingram, Amber Tillman and Jeremiah Borden and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife Therese Cloutier on March 4, 2012, and his sisters, Lucille Riffert and Carmen Beaudry, and a grandson, Douglas Drouin. 

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for their compassion and assistance with his care, especially Kathy, Cindy, Doreen and others that came to assist. 


Funeral Notice


CLOUTIER, Gerard, 94, of Lewiston, died May 10, 2013. Services will be held Friday, May 31st, 9 AM, in the lower church of SS Peter and Paul Basilica. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery. No visitation.  Donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME  04074.
