Jackie F. Thornton, 88, formerly of Fair Street, Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Clover Health Care, where she has resided for the last nine years. Jackie was born in Lewiston on April 23, 1929, the daughter of Alice and Gontran Fortin. She was raised in New Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1947.  She married Frederick Thornton in 1952 and together they raised their two sons in Lewiston.  Jackie worked in the advertising department at the Sun Journal for thirty years, retiring in 1980. She and Fred enjoyed many happy years in retirement, playing golf and wintering in Florida.  She was predeceased by her parents, and by her husband in 1999. Jackie was a longtime member of the Fairlawn Golf Club and volunteered many years in the Radiology dept. at Central Maine Medical Center.  She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, loved to cross stitch and summered at her cottage at Flying Point in Freeport. She is survived by two sons James and his wife Lorrie of Brunswick, Robert and his wife Linda of Minot, two granddaughters Melissa and husband Branden, Andrea and husband Tom, and their mother Cecile Thornton, and Robert and Linda’s children Jesse and wife Devika, and Erik and fiance Melissa, and Lorrie’s son Reed. The family would like to thank the caring staffs at Clover Manor and Androscoggin Hospice for their compassion given.


Funeral Notice 

THORNTON, Jacqueline, 88, of Lewiston, died in Auburn on Thursday, November 23, 2017. At Jackie’s request, services will be private, with interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
