Joseph (Joe) Berube, 80, a native of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at his home in Augusta, on Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was born in Lewiston, on May 3, 1936, the son of Joseph and Cecile (Roi) Berube. He attended local schools and at the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Marines. He served for 3 years and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He later married Lucille Seguin and they had two children, a boy and a girl. They lived in Connecticut for 15 years, but came back to Maine and settled in Lisbon where he owned and operated a small grocery store for 5 years. He later became supervisor of the personnel department at Girton Foods for the processing plant for 4 years. From Lisbon he moved to Augusta and worked for the Maine State Police (5 years) transferred to Capital Security (3 years). Then he went to the State Health and Environmental Testing Lab. He was named Employee of the Year while in that department. He retired after 21 years of service for the State which included his term in the Military.  He was predeceased by his parents and his former wife.He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Hanlon) Cloutier Berube, whom he married on July 31, 1982, his children, Normand D. Berube and wife Karen, of Auburn, ME, Tina C. Berube of Bristol, CT, Pamela S. Cornish and husband Chris of Seattle, WA, and James P. Cloutier, of Lewiston, ME, a sister Jacqueline Goulet and her husband Paul, eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


BERUBE, Joseph E. Jr., 80, of Augusta, died in Augusta on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 9, from 9 - 11 AM, followed by a Liturgy of the Word Service in the funeral home at 11 AM. Prayers of committal with military honors will follow, at 1 PM, at the Chapel of the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
