Laurianne Michaud Cormier, 102, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at St. Mary’s Marguerite D’Youville Pavilion following a short illness and an amazing life.  She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lewiston on July 12, 1912, the first of six children to Frank and Lea Goulet Michaud. She was educated by St. Peter’s Parochial School and become the provider for her family after graduating from Cours Superior in 1928. In 1940 she married Philippe Cormier and raised two daughters. Laurianne gave far more of herself than she demanded of others.  She was 102 years old and 100% dedicated.  Her volunteerism started in earnest 38 years ago after she retired. To help fill her time and abundant energy, she started helping out at the YWCA and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.  As a child she dreamed of becoming a nurse but after the death of her father and the need to help support the family during the Great Depression, required her to set aside her dream. She loved working in the hospital and being around health care providers . Approaching 20,000 hours at St. Mary’s she was still reporting in two days a week. In October 2010 she was presented with the Mayoral Volunteer Inspire by Example Award.  In April of 2012 she was recognized as a special Volunteer Hero by Maine’s First Lady Anne LePage at the annual presentation of the Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism. Laurianne dedicated her life to helping others and was an inspiration to her family.  “Mémère” ‘s love and devotion will be sorely missed.  Losing a 102-year-old family treasure is never easy. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses; Anita and Richard Goulet of Newburyport, Mass., and Louise and Raymond Jean of Scarborough, Maine and Marco Island, Florida, her sister, Gilda Dennis, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Phil, Frank and Maurice as well as her sister, Janet Michaud.
