Miette St. Onge, 1928 - 2016

St. Onge Obit Pic

Miette St. Onge, 88, of Lewiston and recently of Clover Manor in Auburn passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Hospice House in Auburn on Sunday, October 30. She was born in Lewiston on January 13, 1928, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Rousseau) Labonte. Miette married her friend since the age of 9, Laurier (Larry) St. Onge on June 28, 1952, at SS Peter and Paul church and they shared 45 years of family life together raising four children until his death in January of 1998. Miette worked at her family's business, Labonte Wood Yard, in her teens and early twenties and then spent 38 years at Knapp Shoe until her retirement in the early 1990s. She enjoyed her retirement with day trips around Maine, camping at Kezar Lake in Lovell and Hid'n Pines Campground in Old Orchard Beach, and traveling on bus tours to Washington, D.C., New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida with her husband and friends. In her later years, she explored further afield with many trips to England, Ireland, and France. Miette was a gentle, shy, and kind women until seated before a deck of cards, Parcheesi board, or Rummikub tiles. Her competitive streak was legendary as was her luck when it came to door prizes and raffles. Though Miette's work day was spent in front of a sewing machine, at home she whiled away many winter evenings knitting, crocheting, and sewing delightful pieces which her family will continue to cherish. She was also an adventurous cook and baker with a penchant for collecting and using the latest kitchen gadgets and machines. Her blueberry muffins, crepes, creton, and Sunday evening soups were enjoyed by many generations of family and friends. She was a loving mother of four, Mémère of four, and very proud to finally join the Grand Mémère club with one great grandson and four great granddaughters. She is survived by her two sons, Laurier and Gail, of Camden, and Daniel, of Greene and two daughters, Monique and Bob Drouin, of Dover, NH, and Claire and John Kinsella of Portland. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Deanna (St.Onge) Pleskach, Aimee (Drouin) Duncan, Eric St. Onge, and Rob Drouin. She was further blessed with five great grandchildren: Luke St. Onge, Eleanor Pleskach, Alexandra Duncan, Charlotte Drouin, and Adeline Duncan. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurier, her two brothers, Claude and Simeon Labonte, and her daughter-in-law Vivian Rodrigue St. Onge. The family would like to express special thanks to Central Maine Medical Center and the Hospice House who provided tremendous care and comfort in her final days.
