Nancy Lynn Taber, 1955 - 2015

Taber Obit Pic

On February 16th, Nancy Lynn Taber, 59, of Auburn, gradually let loose her grip on this life and quietly drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With the help and care of her dearest friend Linda Jurczak Johnston, along with other amazing friends, Nancy was able to depart this world from the comfortable surroundings of her own home and be, for weeks, in the company of those who loved her most. Born June 15, 1955, the daughter of Edward C. and Janita Cox Taber Jr., she was a loving daughter and supportive sister, doting aunt and fiercely loyal friend. Nancy’s last few months were filled with an outpouring of love and support. She was genuinely touched and amazed by how many people took time to express to her their sympathies, love and hopes. Nancy loved babies. For 37 years she cared for sick and premature infants, working nights in the neo-natal intensive care unit at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. After graduating from Edward Little High School in 1974, Nancy attended the former CMVTI in Auburn to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and later in her career, earned her Associates Degree to become an RN. Nancy always found time to dote on her niece and nephews, creating memories with them on picnics and trips to the beach, playing board games after family dinners, along with having the most wonderfully decorated home for Christmas. She was an avid reader throughout her life, kept meticulous care of her home, enjoyed hiking and walking her friends’ dogs and loved working with her hands, creating beautiful bowls and decorative objects from random pieces of wood that would catch her eye while she visited the woods. But, Nancy’s life changed profoundly when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and created a new life for herself, working hard to set an example that her family and friends could follow. Her Court Street Baptist church family became a much loved and important support for her life before, and especially after, she began struggling with her health. And though she departs from them too soon, she leaves in happiness knowing that, soon enough, she’ll be with them in the life to come. Nancy leaves behind many of us who are not quite sure what we’ll do without her; her brother Jeff and his sons Ian, Derek and Graham and his daughter, Madeline; her niece Alicia Lavoie and her husband Matt and son Wyatt; her dearest friend Linda and husband Eric, and their entire family of siblings and spouses, whose love and kindness have been such a comfort; along with her group of lifelong friends and co-workers who have lost a beautiful companion who gave them joy. Nancy was pre-deceased by her Mom, Dad, and brother, Michael.
