Stella O. Marcoux, 1923 - 2014

Stella O. Marcoux (Fleurange Stella Ouellette), 91, a resident of Sarah Frye Home, 751 Washington Street, Auburn, formerly of 10 Oak Street, Lewiston and 20 Great Falls Plaza, Auburn, died Thursday morning May 1st, at the Clover Health Care facility following a brief illness. Stella was born in Lewiston, Maine April 22, 1923, daughter of Josephel and Emelia (Duquette) Ouellette.  She was a lifelong resident of Lewiston and Auburn.  While growing up in New Auburn, she attended St. Louis elementary school.  She and her brother Aime escaped from the Great New Auburn Fire on May 15, 1933 as the roof burned on St. Louis school.  Her home and father’s business were completely destroyed and over 2,000 people from 422 families were left homeless.  After the fire she attended St. Joseph’s school and Lewiston High School. On September 14, 1946 she married Gerard R. Marcoux her loving husband of 55 years who passed away on July 10, 2002.  Stella was employed over the years at Bates Manufacturing in the spinning room and at various shoe shops as a fancy stitcher. Stella was a member of St. Louis, St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s, Holy Family and later Sacred Heart Catholic parishes.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, “I want to help you”. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. David (Aline) Brozeau of Ocala, FL; Mrs. Marc (Diane) Gilbert of New Gloucester, ME; five grandchildren, Gregory Beaudet and wife Valerie of Beverly MA; Kevin Beaudet and wife Hope of Haverhill, MA; Clifford Gilbert and wife Courtenay of Sandy Hook, CT; Andrew Gilbert of Stamford, CT; and Abigail Gilbert of Ithaca, NY; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Derek, and Brayden Beaudet and Cameron Gilbert. Stella was also survived by several nieces and nephews and friends Jessica Long, Victor Newton, Gerard Beaudet, Therese Pepin and Lorraine Gosselin. Stella was predeceased by her husband, parents, two sisters Leona Jean and Germaine Ouellette and four brothers Laurier, Adrian, Conrad and Aime Ouellette. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the ER and M1 medical staffs at Central Maine Medical Center, the staff of Sarah Frye Home and Clover Health Care facility and special friends Dustin, Nicole and Isaak Barry. 

Funeral Notice

MARCOUX, Stella, of Auburn, died in Auburn on May 1, 2014. Visitation will be held Monday, 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 PM. Services will be Tuesday, 11 AM, at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be May 19, 10 AM, at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stella’s memory may be made to Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children and Adults, P.O. Box 518, 149 Front St., Bath, ME 04530.
