Virginia Beland, 1911 - 2015

Virginia Beland, 104, formerly of St. Quentin, N.B., Canada, Lisbon Falls, Skowhegan, and Lewiston died Friday October 30, 2015, at the Eastside Center for Health & Rehabilitation in Bangor. Born in Saint-Damase, Quebec, on April 30, 1911, she was the daughter of Joseph and Eugenie Otis Beland. She first came to Maine in 1929 to visit her sister, Louise Gaudreau, and help care for her new baby. In 1946, Virginia became a citizen of the United States, while living in Lisbon Falls, Maine. She kept house for Father Lucien Chabot for 55 years, moving a number of times to different parishes. Her home for the last forty plus years was Lewiston, until she moved to Winterberry Heights Assisted Living in Bangor. She was a very kind and caring person, and a wonderful cook who also loved to knit and crochet. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, and spending time with her special friend Priscilla Wilcox. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lewiston.  Survivors include nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Claire Beland, and Madeleine Beland. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Moise, Thomas, Albert, Joseph, Georges, Lucien, Yvon and sisters, Yvonne, Louise, Yvette, and Germaine.

BELAND, Virginia, 104, died in Bangor on Friday, October 30, 2015. A service will be held at Holy Cross Church on Saturday, November 14, at 1 PM. Interment, St. Peter’s Cemetery. In her memory, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
